       The 2012 Casimir Pulaski Distinguished Alumni Award Winner is Marilyn Tanner-Blasiar.  Marilyn Tanner-Blasiar, MHS, RD, LD, is a former national spokesperson for nutrition and dietetics for the American Dietetic Association out of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  Marilynn currently is a clinical pediatric dietitian at Washington University School of Medicine and at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  She coordinates the investigation of nutritional prevention of Type 1 diabetes, TRIGR, which is being conducted at the university’s Patient Oriented Research Unit.  Marilyn teaches dietetic interns and speaks frequently on children’s nutrition and obesity at convention sessions involving parents, educators, physicians and various health professionals. 

       Marilyn created the hospital’s “Head to Toe” adolescent obesity fitness program and worked with the “Fan club” 30-week obesity program.  In 2006, she was named one of the “Most Influential” therapists by Therapy Times magazine.  Marilyn earned a certificate of training in childhood and adolescent weight-management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration in 2003.  She was named the Missouri Dietetic Association’s 1997 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year and the 2004 Missouri Outstanding Dietitian of the Year.  In 2004, Marilyn was elected President of the Missouri Dietetic Association; and later that same year, she received the 2004 College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Science’s Young Alumni Award from the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana. 

       At U of I, Marilyn was President of the Student Dietetic Association (1988-’89); and in addition to her excelling in academics, she participated in instrumental music and dance all four years, graduating with a B.S. in Dietetics.  Marilyn earned a M.H.S. from Washington University in Health Science.

       Marilyn is a 1985 graduate of Mount Pulaski High School, where she was involved in extra-curricular activities such as music, sports, dance and 4-H.  Marilyn currently resides in St. Louis, MO with her husband Darin Blasiar and her twin 2 year old boys Adam and Andrew.
