| Quick
action on the part of the firefighters spared
the spread of the fire in the historic 1865
structure. "Our entry team did a good job
knocking it down so it did not go
anywhere," fire inspector Tim Aper said.
They were able to keep it contained to the
foyer area outside the restroom.
Lincoln Rural Fire Department sent out an
engine and nine men, and Atlanta Fire
Department sent an engine and six men to
assist. The city also had all off-duty firemen
at the scene.
Lincoln College's University Hall was
featured as the official city of Lincoln
ornament in 2004 and is listed in the National
Register of Historic Places. The landmark
structure is the only original building on
campus. It houses the president's office,
teachers' offices and classrooms. The college
radio station is in the basement below where
the fire broke out.
