Kindred among 84 headed to IBCA Hall

BLOOMINGTON Randy Kindred, the assistant sports editor of The
Pantagraph, will be among 84 individuals and six teams inducted in the
Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame during cermonies
April 30 at the Illinois State Bone Student Center.
Kindred, who has been a sportswriter at The Pantagraph for 25 years and
the assistant sports editor for three years, was selected for induction
into the Hall of Fame in the media category. He has covered boys and
girls high school basketball during his entire career at The Pantagraph.
Other individuals from The Pantagraph area being inducted include
former Normal Community High School athletics director Ron Goodwin, Dan
Faber of Flanagan, Mary Stewart of Mount Pulaski and Tony and Fran
Witte of Wing in the Friends of Basketball category.
Former Illinois State women's player Pat McKenzie-Lechault of Sterling will be inducted in the girls player category.
Lanny Slevin of WLPO radio station in LaSalle-Peru will receive the
Buzzy O'Connor Award, which his the highest honor awarded by the IBCA,
for his longtime commitment to the IBCA. Slevin is a member of the IBCA
Hall of Fame in the media category, having been inducted in 1985.
In all, 19 men and three women players, 20 coaches, 28 friends of
basketball, six members of the media and 11 officials were selected for
the Hall of Fame through a nomination process and voted on by the IBCA
Board of Directors.
