[APRIL
3, 2004] The Lincoln College
board of trustees has honored retired history instructor Paul Beaver
with the title of professor emeritus, which was approved at their
last meeting in February. |

Beaver, a native
of Logan County, is a graduate of Middletown Community High
School. He holds an associate in arts degree from Lincoln
College, a bachelor's and a master's degree from Illinois State
University. He taught history and English at Elkhart Junior
High for seven years before taking a faculty position at Lincoln
College. While at Lincoln College he also served as curator of
the Lincoln College Museum before retiring in 2001.

He has lectured
on the topic of "Abraham Lincoln in Logan County" to Civil War
groups in Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. He was
selected by the Illinois State Department of Tourism to be "Lincoln
Scholar in Residence," which required him to travel with the Lincoln
Heritage Trail Travel Writer's group that toured the surrounding
states where Abraham Lincoln grew up. In 1983 he was in charge
of publishing the “History of Logan County,” and he was the
co-editor of the recently published “Pictorial History of Logan
County.”

President Ronald L. Schilling says the title honors the continued
support that Beaver has given to Lincoln College over the years.
"I can't think of a better way to honor
a man who has played such an important role for so many of our
students,” Schilling said. “He has taken his passion for
history and inspired others to follow his quest of interpreting the
rich history of Logan County and our 16th president. We are
very fortunate to have Paul as a professor and friend of Lincoln
College."
