LINCOLN -- Joseph V. Hickey Sr., 85, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 6:50 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Zion Cemetery, with the Rev. Curt McCallister officiating.

Mr. Hickey was retired from farming in Chester Township.

He was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Lincoln to Joseph V. and Alice T. Fitzsimmons Hickey. He married Hazel E. Leedate on April 21, 1940, in Bowling Green, Mo. She died Nov. 26, 2005.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph V. (and Kay) Hickey Jr. of Cornland and Robert James (and Ann) Hickey of Lincoln; five daughters, Sandra K. (and Robert) Meador of Lincoln, Loretta Ann (and Truett) Minor of Bessemer, Ala., Virginia L. Chere of Lincoln, Nancy Jo (and Roger) Sutton of Lincoln and Rebecca S. Osborne of Lincoln; one brother, Edward Hickey of Mount Pulaski; one sister, Mary Ellen Thornton of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

 

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judith, and one brother, Thomas Hickey.

Memorials may be made to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
