Barbara Jo Anderson of Sonoma, passed away
peacefully at home in Sonoma, on Nov. 19,
2008, after a seven year battle with
Lymphoma. She was born to Charles H.
Anderson and Elizabeth Ruth Waddell in
Clinton, IL on Nov. 12, 1939.
Barbara grew up and went to school in Mt. Pulaski, IL. She was a very popular cheerleader all through school, was elected prom queen attendant, May queen attendant and was crowned homecoming queen in 1957 at Mt. Pulaski High School. She graduated from Southern Illinois University, where she earned her degree in retail management. She married Gary Rentmeister in 1961, and together they had one daughter, Stefanie. Her retail career started at the Bressmer's department store in Springfield, IL before moving to California. She continued to work in retail management over a span of 45 years in California at such establishments as Bullock's, Macy's and Neiman Marcus.
She spent a lot of time with her daughter and two beautiful granddaughters who were her little angels of inspiration and happiness. Barbara was very artistic and a poet. She was a terrific painter and also created wonderful ceramic pieces. Barbara made lots of wonderful friends while working part-time at The Olive Press in Glen Ellen. She loved to travel, having visited Italy, Hawaii and enjoyed a wonderful cruise with most of her family members last year in the Caribbean. Barbara continued to keep in touch with her long-time friends from Illinois and California. Along with her daughter Stefanie, she is survived by her two granddaughters, Sofia and Carina Given, of Sonoma; her sister, Judith (and Thomas) Kindred, of Mo.; two brothers, Charles Kent (and Sheila) Anderson, of Mo., and Stephen (and Lei) Anderson, of MT; several nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends spanning several decades of her life. She will be surely missed by all.
Barbara attended St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sonoma, and her life will be remembered at a private memorial after the New Year.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Andrew or directly to the American Cancer Society for Lymphoma research. Inquiries can be made to Duggan's Mission Chapel at 996-3655.
