MOUNT
PULASKI - Van Edwin Froehlich was born in
Lexington, Ill. on December 31, 1920. He was the
son of Fred and Lola (Armstrong) Froehlich. Van
graduated from high school at Blue Mound, Ill.
in the class of 1940. Van was also a veteran of
WW II. After serving his country Van attended
the University of Illinois and the University of
Columbia in Missouri for two years to prepare
for a career with J.I. Case Implement Company, a
farm machinery business, with his father in Mt.
Pulaski, Illinois. In 1955 Van made the decision
to follow his Grandfather Froehlich in the
funeral service profession. He graduated from
Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago,
Il. and received licensing certifications from
the Illinois State and National Conference
exams. He served thirty-six years as a licensed
funeral director with Dawson & Wikoff Funeral
Home in Decatur Illinois. He retired in 1994.
Surviving are his beloved wife of sixty-two
years, M. Eileen Stopher and children; Dorla Rae
(husband, John) Schlitt of Franklin, TN and
Phillip E. (wife, Frances) Froehlich of Las
Vegas, NV. Grandchildren include: Kari (husband,
Dan) Needham of Franklin, TN, John Kyle Schlitt
of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristopher (wife, Rachel)
Schlitt, and M. Krey Schlitt of Franklin, TN.,
Marie, Mary, and Phillip Froehlich of Las Vegas,
NV. Van and Eileen also have 5
great-grandchildren. Van's youngest brother,
David of Scottsdale, AZ preceded him in death.
His brother, Fred Froehlich, lives in Ellicott
City, MD. Van will be remembered always by his
family as a loving and devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather. Van was a
member of the Mt. Pulaski United Methodist
Church and the Ansar Shrine. Obituary written by
