He was born
December 7, 1927 in Mt. Pulaski to Elmer
Edward and Helen Eola Birks Allspach. He
married Shirley Jean Carter on February 26,
1948, she survives.
Also
surviving is one son George (Karen) Allspach
of Mt. Pulaski; four daughters, Kathryn
(Scott) Steinfort of Miramar, FL, Linda
(Dennis) Sheehan of Lincoln, IL, Jerilee
(Brad) Gibbs of Crawford, CO, Jo Ellen
(Mark) Gilbert of Paris, IL : One brother
Donald (Shirley) Allspach of Mt. Pulaski,
13 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one son David Edward Allspach and
one brother John Birks Allspach.
Mr.
Allspach was a member of the Lake Fork Grade
School Board of Education (President), Mt.
Pulaski Grade School Board of Education
(President), Logan County Soil and Water
Conservation District for 35 years(Chairman
of the Board), received the Illinois Soil
and Water Conservation Districts’ Governor’s
Award for the Conservation Farm Family of
the Year in 1996, Union Drainage District
Commissioner, Logan County Cemetery
District (Chairman of the Board),
Steenbergen Cemetery Board of Directors,
Menard Electric Co-op Board of Directors,
and the Prairie State Model T Car Club.
Visitation
for Mr. Allspach will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
Friday December 10, at the Mt. Pulaski
Christian Church Family Life Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 p.m.
Saturday December 11, 2010 at the Mt.
Pulaski Christian Church. Burial will be in
Steenbergen Cemetery, Mt. Pulaski.
Memorials
may be made to Vonderlieth Living Center or
St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Ed was a
loving husband and dedicated father of six
children. He had a passion for farming and
stewardship of the land. He was active in
many service and leadership roles in the
community. In later years, Ed enjoyed
traveling with his wife Shirley and was an
avid antique car enthusiast. This generous
man will be greatly missed by family and
friends.
