CORNLAND
-- George David Gibbs, 72, of Cornland, died
Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 10:32 a.m. at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home, with Bill Shanle
and Chauncey Lattimer officiating. |

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery, Mount
Pulaski. Mr. Gibbs was a semi truck driver for
Stahl's Implement, C.C. Hawes and Cross
Implement.
He was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Dahlgren to
Cyrus A. and Elsie E. McClure Gibbs. He married
Freda Chapman in Cornland on Dec. 14, 1974.
He is survived by his wife, of Cornland;
three sons, Darrell (and Elizabeth) Gibbs of
Decatur, David (and Sheryl) Gibbs of Mount
Pulaski and Kenneth Gibbs of Cornland; two
daughters, Peggy Sue (and Martin) Dunne of Mason
City and Donna Jean (and Allen) Eeten of Mount
Pulaski; one brother, Roy (and Sue) Gibbs of
Macedonia; two sisters, Nadine Whitsett of
Aurora, Colo., and Beverly (and Michael) Cyrulik
of Mount Pulaski; 13 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one
son, Stewart; two brothers, Evan and Orval; and
two sisters, Elma and Sarah.
He was a deacon and trustee at the Cornland
Christian Church. |
He retired from the Cornland Volunteer Fire
Department.
He was on the Cornland Community Committee
and was a community inspirer, as he would do a
neighbor's yardwork before his own.
He was an avid camper.
Memorials may be made to Mount Pulaski EMS,
Logan County Paramedic Association or Cornland
Christian Church.
