MOUNT
PULASKI -- John R. "Jack" Pope, 89, of Mount
Pulaski, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at 11 p.m.
at Vonderlieth Living Center.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski, with the Rev. Kathryn Frus officiating.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
funeral home. |

Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, rural
Latham, where military rites will be conducted.
Mr. Pope was a retired farmer.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.
He was born June 21, 1920, in Latham to Frank
H. and Thear Macrae Pope Sr. He married Bonnie
McKinley in Chestnut on Sept. 5, 1948.
He is survived by his wife, of Mount Pulaski;
one son, John Pope of Mount Pulaski; one
daughter, Gay Conder of Decatur; six
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean
Grathwohl; his twin brother, Frank; and one son,
Robert.
He was a member of Niantic Christian Church.
He was a community-minded individual. |
He received four Bronze Battle Stars for his
service in the Battle of the Bulge.
Memorials may be made to Niantic Christian
Church, Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447
or the donor's choice.
