Hilltopper of Legendary Family is Dead at the Age of 85

Where Gayland fulfilled a life-long dream by retiring here with his Emagene for 17 years while he fiddled away in the evenings
in the town's square where local country music reigned.

Gayland Green, a retired Mt. Pulaski farmer and renowned Central Illinois fiddler, passed away on Jan. 28, 2004, in his home here in Mt. Pulaski, the scene of his second retirement location.  Along with his successful farming and music abilities, Gayland leaves his equally talented wife, Emagene Veech Green.  Emagene compiled and wrote the famous
 Mt. Pulaski "Green" book:

And She Held Forth Her Hand
,

published in 1961.  It went into a 2nd printing in 1997.  This treatise incorporates the history and genealogy of
Mt. Pulaski and the surrounding vicinity.
