Mt. Pulaski IL.

State Fair Tram Service

Needs 200-300 more volunteers!

This annual Mt. Pulaski fund-raiser is short of volunteers this year as it was last year.  Many volunteers had to do double and triple duty to fill the shortages of workers.  This is a fund-raiser for Mt. Pulaski organizations, clubs, and schools.  This brings in outside money to help fund the service projects of these organizations, clubs, and schools.

There is a definite chance of losing this annual money-maker.  "Each year, the numbers dwindle and we lose some volunteers.  If we can't fulfill our end of the contract (volunteers), the State Fair will find another organization, probably in Springfield, to operate the trams", say Mt Pulaski tram coordinators Jeff Clements and David Meister.  "Our town organizations will have to find other means to get their service money - either by raising fees, having different fundraisers, or being unable to provide the resources and service they do currently."

There are basically four duties:  ticket sellers, ticket takers, tram loaders, and tram drivers.  The tractor drivers need to be 18 and very familiar with tractor driving.   Younger people, with parent supervision, can fulfill the jobs of ticket takers or tram riders.  Loaders assist at the main tram stop, getting people on and off and making sure traffic is clear for the drivers.  Anyone from High School age on up can be a loader.
