Crews work to restore power in Latham after snowstorms

'); // -->
LATHAM - Rodney Park's world went black Wednesday.

That's when snow, sleet and rain knocked out power to Korn Krib, his restaurant along Illinois 121. Early Friday evening, Park was still hoping for power to be restored to the Latham restaurant.

"We haven't had any business since Wednesday," Park said. "We're waiting to see what kind of condition our food is in. Luckily, we got most of our meat in on Wednesday so everything's fresh.

"I think everything will be OK."

Park joins about 3,900 AmerenCILCO customers in Logan County and parts of DeWitt County who were without power Friday evening, said spokeswoman Shirley Swarthout. Another 900 were without power near Peoria.

Crews were expected to work through the night Friday. Some customers likely won't have power restored until today, she said.

About 3,000 AmerenIP customers in the Decatur area reported power outages Wednesday. Virtually everyone now has power restored, Swarthout said.

About 1,000 AmerenIP customers were without service Friday, and almost 900 were in the McLean County area.

High winds whipped the area on Wednesday, and ice and snow weighed down electrical lines. Such a storm "just wreaks havoc on our system," Swarthout said.

"We've had numerous reports of wires down and poles broken," she said.

Park is hopeful power will soon be restored at his restaurant, where crowds usually pick up at week's end. He already was told the power would be restored at various times Thursday and Friday.

"What I don't understand is they've got power to the people right next to us," Park said. "There are only a few businesses in Latham, anyway, and it's pretty important to us."

Swarthout said the company tries to give accurate assessments of when power would be restored, and it appreciates customers' patience.
