The "Piecemakers" out of Mt. Pulaski St. John's Lutheran have finished
another successful year for 2006.  On Saturday, Oct 21st,  the Annual Chicken Noodle Dinner was held and everyone that attended the dinner was able to see these beautiful homemade quilts.  Other items included: sewing kits, knit hats, school bags, diaper bags and health kits.

St. John's hosts an annual Chicken and Noodle Dinner during the latter part of October.  Members of the church assemble before harvest time and make enough homemade noodles to be cooked and served, along with other ala carte items.  Mark the 3rd Saturday of October on your calendar for next year.

At the Saturday evening and Sunday morning services, these items are blessed by the Pastor and the congregations.

During the year,  members of Mt. Pulaski's St. John's Lutheran Church make many homemade quilts and other items for the Lutheran World Relief Mission Project.  Following the 3rd weekend annual dinner, they are delivered to Bloomington's St. John's Lutheran Church for distribution world-wide.

This year, on October 28, 2006,  a pickup truck loaded with 33 boxes, left St. John's, Mt. Pulaski, for delivery to St. John's in Bloomington for the Lutheran World Relief Ingathering.  These boxes contained 81 knotted quilts,  47 school kits, 36 sewing kits, 84 health kits, and 15 boxes of wrapped bar soap.

In Bloomington, these boxes joined a multitude of others and were loaded into semi-trailers to begin their journey to God's people in need, with the first stop being Minneapolis, MN.  The many volunteers unloading vehicles and reloading into the trailer were also awaiting a second trailer to accommodate the generous gifts from a wide area of churches in Illinois.

As in the past, St. John's has special projects for the St. Martin DePorre Center in Springfield.  Last year, St. John's packed 32 sewing tins with necessary mending items and collected a number of small household appliances.  Along with these items, St. John's transported 29 infant layettes, 23 knotted baby quilts and blankets, 26 scarves, 17 pr. mittens and 94 hats, (mostly handmade).

Mt. Pulaski's St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Lutheran World Relief Mission, and Springfield's St. Martin DePorre's Center are deeply grateful to all of you who have donated your time, effort and money for this huge annual project! St. John's will be taking a break until later in January, so please hold your next-year donations until after that time.

God bless all of you for your contributions!
