Jr. and Sr. High SS (grades 6-12) will be examining and discussing a wide variety of topics from a biblical perspective. Please join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. (We are also looking for adults to help lead these discussions and drive to Vonderlieth.) BIBLE STUDY SERIES – This Bible study series is based on the “Today’s Light” Bible. In this study the participants read Genesis through Revelation in two years’ time. Participants are given certain readings for the week and then these passages are discussed at Sunday’s class. “TODAY’S LIGHT” BIBLE STUDY SERIES Week 96 (July 14-19) Readings: Ø Monday – 2 Timothy 3:1 – 4:22 Ø Tuesday – Titus 1:1-16 Ø Wednesday – Titus 2:1-15 Ø Thursday – Titus 3:1-15 Ø Friday – Philemon 1-25 Ø Saturday – Hebrews 1:1-14 SUMMER HOURS – During the summer months the church/school office will be only be open Monday – Thursday from 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 4:00 p.m. The office will be closed on Fridays. If the office will be closed at other times we will try to have those times posted in the bulletin.
Voters’ Assembly Quarterly Meeting Sunday, July 13 following Worship
THANK YOU – Thank you to all who helped in any way with Vacation Bible School this past week. Over 60 children were in attendance. Whether you brought your child, were a teacher or helper, sent snacks, passed out door hangers, or contributed in any other way – you were a vital part of this year’s program. Thanks to Barbara Maske, Jill Saulsberry, and Sue Schaffenacker for coordinating the program. SOFTBALL GAME – The Jr. & Sr. LYF invites the young and young-at-heart to join them SUNDAY, July 13 at 4:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Elkhart Center for the 3rd annual church/LYF softball game. If you don’t care to play, just come to cheer them on. Rain date will be July 20th. MATERIALS NEEDED – Filling material is needed for the LWR quilts. Donations of old mattress pads, old blankets, flannel sheets, or batting would be most welcome. Items may be left in the church office. QUILTING FOR LWR – Members of the Naomi-Ruth Society will meet at church on Friday, July 18, beginning at 9:00 a.m. to assemble quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Anyone is welcome to join them & help with this project. Those coming should bring a sack lunch. Any questions, contact Gloria Morrow at 792-5715 or at 792-5745. PLEASE SIGN UP – Could you help us for just a Sunday or two (or more) during the summer months? Volunteers are needed to teach Summer Sunday School. Grade divisions are PreK – Gr.1, Grades 2-5, Grades 6-12. The sign up sheet can be found on the wing bulletin board. Please note - The Summer 2008 Teacher Guides can be downloaded from the CPH website (thus maybe saving you a trip to town to prepare your SS lesson). Go to sundayschool.cph.org/summer. The login is summer08 and the password is freetg. REGISTRATION – There are preschool classes (for children age 2 and older as of September 1, 2008) as well as kindergarten through eighth grade. Zion Lutheran School offers your child a Christ-centered education in multi-grade classrooms, is state-accredited, and has a full-core curriculum. If you would like more information, contact the school office at 792-5715. VISITS WITH THE DREWS’ FAMILY – You may think that Pastor knows all of you but there is still a lot he doesn’t know about you. That’s why Pastor Drews, Melanie and Grace are continuing visits with the Drews’ Family. Call Pastor’s home (792-5120) to set up a time to visit. We hope to see you all soon. If you are scheduled to usher or acolyte on a Sunday morning, you are also responsible for ushering or acolyting at the following Thursday’s service.
Whether you are 4 or 104, Camp CILCA is the place for you! Be a part of the exciting things going on! Not only do they have summer camp for kids but a variety of specialty camps and retreats throughout the year. Now is the time to start thinking about summer camp. You can even receive an Early Bird Discount for paying for some camps in full by February 28th! Camp CILCA summer camp brochures can be found in the racks in the church entry and in the wing or you can go to www.cilca.org for info on any of their activities. PTL COOKBOOKS - There are 600 delicious recipes in each book! Only $10.00 each!! Proceeds benefit Zion P.T.L. Available in the church office. SERMONS AVAILABLE – From time to time a parishioner may ask for a printed copy of Pastor Drews’ sermon. Pastor makes copies for the students in his catechism class and also a few extra so his sermon is already available in print each week. Look for the holder on the wall next to the flower chart. Hopefully this location will be more convenient for all. YOU CAN RECYCLE YOUR OLD Portals of Prayers and Bibles. There is a collection box in the wing where you can recycle your old Portals of Prayer and Bibles that are in good condition. The Naomi-Ruth Society will be gathering these materials to give to a mission that sends them overseas.
